Jermaine Lamarr Cole otherwise known as J. Cole is an American rapper and lyricist, born with a higher purpose than to create music. Granted his music is exceptional, but he is a prime example of an artist whose music supersedes the industry. J. Cole was bred for the life of a warrior. Born in an American military base in Frankfurt where his father, an African-American veteran who served in the U.S. Army, and his mother, a worker for the United States Postal Service helped shape him into the artist he is today. But it was not always easy living for the American rapper raised in North Carolina. Despite having an African-American father, and a European American mother, Cole explained never felt like he belonged in the white community. He identifies with them and loves his maternal family, but the treatment he received from his society whilst growing up suggested otherwise. However, this would be the driving force that would develop him as an artist, and the messages he fiercely promotes within his music.
