World In Motion: The History of the Iconic John Barnes Rap.

One of the most memorable England national team anthems, aside from Skinner and Baddiel’s ‘Three Lions’, and Fat Les’ ‘Vindaloo’ was created in 1990 as the Three Lions were gearing up for Italia ’90. Now, over three decades later, as the England lads are currently flying high in Euro 2020, the legendary New Order single ‘World In Motion’ featuring various Lions still heavily resonates with many fans to this day.

It was an innovative track that reached №1 in the UK charts for two weeks, partially due to the fact that there was a reputable band in New Order (formally Joy Division) fronting the song. With a variety of previous England football-related songs having tried and failed, whilst recruiting for the song, only six of the England squad at the time actually turned up; Gazza, Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Steve McMahon, Des Walker, and the man himself, John Barnes.

Most of the squad thought the song was going to be a complete flop, but when the six singing turned up to the studio, they were greeted by New Order and Keith Allen.
